The mission of Mental Health Ministries is to provide a wide variety of print and media resources to help erase the stigma of mental illness in our faith communities. In preparation for Mental Health Month in May, we are offering two free, downloadable bulletin inserts or flyers. The first contains general information on mental illness and the second one is for children and adolescents. These are designed to be printed back to back on 8 ½" by 11" paper. They can then be cut in half so that you get two inserts or flyers from one piece of paper.
Our May is Mental Health Month bulletin insert/flyer is available in Spanish. Our Coping with a Loved One's Depression is also available in Spanish. We are grateful to the volunteers from INGENIUM ABP for translating these resources and hope to offer more of our resources in Spanish in the future.
Did you know... The magnitude of mental illness in this country is staggering. According to the Surgeon General, one in every five Americans experiences a mental disorder in any given year and half of all Americans have such disorders at some time in their lives. These illnesses of the brain affect all of us, regardless of age, gender, economic status or ethnicity.
Our youth are our future. Faith communities need to understand the affects of untreated mental illness in our children and youth. They need to make a commitment to provide education in order to help change societal attitudes about these illnesses of the brain. In breaking the silence, communities of faith can be a source of hospitality, healing and hope for young people and their families.
We hope you find these resources helpful and encourage you to visit the Mental Health Ministries website for many other resources.
And I hope to see many of you at the NAMI national convention to be held in San Diego, June 21-24. Click here to register for the convention .
