Your Ideas
YOU are the most important part of finding ways to help congregations reach out to individuals and families struggling with mental illness.
The first important step is educating congregations about the importance of talking about mental illness. Most often the process begins when people tell their story. Barriers of fear, ignorance and stigma are broken down when people like you take the risk to break the silence to speak out tell your story.
Once mental illness is a "safe" topic to talk about, your congregation can begin to find ways to minister to and with persons and families dealing with mental illness. Each congregation is unique. We hope some of the resources in available through Mental Health Ministries will help you find ways to meet the need of your congregation and hopefully to reach out to persons in your community.
This page is another way of sharing ideas of what has been helpful to erase the stigma of mental illness in your community. In sharing your ideas, we will only use your first name and the city you are from unless you give us permission to use your full name, the name of your faith community, counseling center, community group or other setting, and your city and state.
